The Barbour Group, LLC Partners With Gaines and Company, Inc. to Host a Fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association
Karen Barbour of The Barbour Group, LLC and Lee Gaines of Gaines and Company, Inc. hosted the 2009 Party for a Cure to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Friday, May 15. This gala event held at the Garrett‐Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore was designed to raise funds to help send children with muscular dystrophy to MDA Camp this summer.
MDA Camp provides a wide range of activities especially designed for young people who have limited mobility. Party for a Cure raised $17,000 which will be used to send 19 children to camp. Along with MDA camp, the MDA which is dedicated to the eradication of 43 neuromuscular diseases, provides help and hope to families through clinics, financial assistance, support groups, health education and advocacy programs.
The MDA is a voluntary national health agency and depends on support from the community to help fund research aimed at identifying the causes and cures for neuromuscular diseases. The silent auction and private donations contributed to the success of the Party for a Cure. In addition to hosting the event, The Barbour Group and Gaines and Company, Inc. were also generous sponsors. Other sponsors included Executive Insurance Benefits, LLC, Stella May Contracting, Inc., International Fidelity Insurance Corporation, Law Offices of Morgan Carlo Downs & Everton, P.A., Koch Homes, Lakeshore Group, Profast Commercial Flooring, Nascar, Beechfield Landscaping, Inc., Baltimore Sound Engineering, Inc., Xcel Construction Services, Inc., Maryland Washington Minority Contractors Association, Info Pathways, Paragon Insurance Service, Inc., Chereco Co., Inc., and Law Offices of McManus, Schor, Asmar and Darden LLP.
MDA Director, Gina Clark, said “The MDA and the families we serve are so grateful for the generosity and support of The Barbour Group and Gaines and Company…money raised from the Party for a Cure will be spent locally for area children and adults that suffer from one of the 43 neuromuscular diseases that the Muscular Dystrophy Association covers” She and the children can’t wait for the second annual Party for a Cure.
Everyone in attendance had a great time at the event. The food and entertainment were first class as promised, and one attendee commented that he was “happy to have the chance to be part of such an important event. It is hard to think of a more worthy cause.”
