3rd Annual Party For A Cure

The Barbour Group, Gaines and Company, Inc. and 24/7 Fiber Network Team Up to Raise Money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)

3rd annual Party for a Cure event was a major success by raising $65,000 for MDA

The Barbour Group, a woman-owned surety bond brokerage based in Maryland, Gaines and Company, a top ranked underground utility contractor providing its customers with exceptional work in Maryland and North Carolina, and 24/7 Fiber Network, a privately held, Baltimore-Washington, DC metro area, dark fiber provider, co-hosted the 3rd annual Party for a Cure event Thursday, June 2, 2011 held at the Engineer’s Club in Baltimore. Event attendees, enjoyed live entertainment, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and spirits. Through the event and the silent auction, the 3rd annual Party for the Cure, raised the bar this year, donating $65,000 to MDA. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research as well as providing comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.

“We had a wonderful turn out at our 3rd annual Party for a Cure event and it was a great honor to have an opportunity to interact with the families, whose children have benefited from MDA’s efforts,” said Karen Barbour, President of The Barbour Group. “The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a dynamic organization, whose mission means a great deal to me. Every year they make tremendous strides in their research and their initiatives for those who are dealing with Muscular Dystrophy. Both myself and our fellow sponsors truly appreciate the response and support we have received this year.”

All of the proceeds will be used to provide hundreds of local children with the opportunity to attend MDA summer camp, which is a specially designed place, created for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs to participate in a wide range of activities, receive medical care at the MDA’s clinic at Johns Hopkins, have repairs made to their durable medical equipment and most importantly allow MDA to continue to fund vital research to find a cure.

Party for a Cure Raises Funds to Find a Cure

Karen Barbour of The Barbour Group, Lee and Myrt Gaines of Gaines and Company, Inc and Glenn Little of Suffolk Construction all came together to sponsor the Second Annual Party for a Cure, held at the historic Engineer’s Club to benefit  the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).   Jennifer Gilbert of Fox 45 News emceed the event and Naomi Hess – a local MDA child battling Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (CMD), spoke and thanked the three event sponsors and their guests for their support.

Karen Barbour began Party for a Cure in 2009 along with Lee Gains of Gaines and Company, Inc. in hopes of helping in the fight again neuromuscular diseases.  Because of the tremendous support from the event sponsors and their hard work, Party for a Cure, raised over $35,000 this year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the local families they serve.

Funds raised by the event will support local health care services such as clinical care, support groups, research, repair of medical equipment and providing a week‐long session of summer camp for children age 6 to 17.

Muscular Dystrophy Association: Party For A Cure

The Barbour Group, LLC Partners With Gaines and Company, Inc. to Host a Fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Karen Barbour of The Barbour Group, LLC and Lee Gaines of Gaines and Company, Inc. hosted the 2009 Party for a Cure to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Friday, May 15. This gala event held at the Garrett‐Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore was designed to raise funds to help send children with muscular dystrophy to MDA Camp this summer.

MDA Camp provides a wide range of activities especially designed for young people who have limited mobility. Party for a Cure raised $17,000 which will be used to send 19 children to camp. Along with MDA camp, the MDA which is dedicated to the eradication of 43 neuromuscular diseases, provides help and hope to families through clinics, financial assistance, support groups, health education and advocacy programs.

The MDA is a voluntary national health agency and depends on support from the community to help fund research aimed at identifying the causes and cures for neuromuscular diseases. The silent auction and private donations contributed to the success of the Party for a Cure. In addition to hosting the event, The Barbour Group and Gaines and Company, Inc. were also generous sponsors. MDA Director, Gina Clark, said “The MDA and the families we serve are so grateful for the generosity and support of The Barbour Group and Gaines and Company…money raised from the Party for a Cure will be spent locally for area children and adults that suffer from one of the 43 neuromuscular diseases that the Muscular Dystrophy Association covers” She and the children can’t wait for the second annual Party for a Cure.

Everyone in attendance had a great time at the event. The food and entertainment were first class as promised, and one attendee commented that he was “happy to have the chance to be part of such an important event. It is hard to think of a more worthy cause.”
